Blogs > Lighten Up with Michael Kadlub

The 39-year-old Michael Kadlub starts off with the disadvantage of spending six weeks on the road for work. But P90X and a plan to eat sensibly will help him on his way to reaching his goal of the 200 pounds he weighed during his days on the John Carroll football team.

The Final Day

I saw that Scott had to weigh in early and he blogged about it this morning. Congrats to Scott on losing weight through this journey, improved healthy living and congrats on his recent marriage. He says he will start a new round of P90X on Monday. Keep pressing play Scott!

So, my weigh in happens in a couple hours. I am a little disappointed in myself because I felt as if I had too many excuses/slip-ups/temptations, etc this past month. So I decided to punish myself by running the hill we used to run as CYO football players in Wickliffe. I just got done sweating out all those Corona Lights I indulged in this week/month.

Six months ago, I could not walk upstairs from my basement without sucking a little wind. Now, there are certain days when I do multiple workouts and/or cardio events.

In the past, when trying to lose weight, I would see it as a sprint and try to lose it very fast. I have learned through this journey that slow and steady is the way to go if I want to continue this for my lifetime.

I know I have reached one of my goals which was to show a loss each monthly weigh in. Will I reach my goal of 60 pounds lost? I will probably come up short unless I chop off a couple of fingers.

I will not have Laura or these blogs to hold me accountable moving forward, so I will have to find the inspiration and will power from within. Do I have what it takes? I think I finally do!

Thanks again Laura for selecting me as a contestant and giving me some extra motivation to get back to a healthier lifestyle. Good luck to everyone on weigh in day!

7-29: One Day Left

Where did all the time go?   6 months seem to fly by.

This week has been a little crazy for me.   Each day I was out of the office visiting with clients, but I ate healthy for the most part.   If I did eat out, it was either at Subway or Chick-Fil-a.  However, I was in a celebratory mood yesterday as I become an uncle for the first time as my brother and sister-in-law welcomed a healthy baby boy into this world.  I decided to celebrate with wings and several Corona Lights.   I did get my fruit intake for the day with all the limes I had, so that is a plus.  In addition, I was awake at 5am for a 6am racquetball game, which is an excellent workout.   So I skipped yesterday’s Insanity workout due to the racquetball and Corona Lights.   I will do an Insanity workout this afternoon, and also get one in before tomorrow’s weigh in.

Hopefully everybody was able to step it up to my 20 Day Challenge and show a negative result when they step on the scale tomorrow.  As for myself, while I will not be getting the dinner from my brother (I had to lose 66 total lbs), I will come very close to my goal I set upon the beginning of this journey (60 pounds).

I want to thank Laura for giving me an opportunity to be part of this group.  I know I have become a better person because of it, and I hope everybody else can say the same thing.  Now comes the hard part for most of us, trying to maintain our current weight, or even losing more.  I have had my struggles the last few years maintaining the weight after losing weight.  Hopefully, I can continue my healthy lifestyle and carry this with me as I enter my 40’s starting in September.

Good Luck to everybody tomorrow!!!!

7-25

Merry Christmas in July everybody!!!

Well, I finally beat the Weakend! I actually lost a pound

Today, I restarted my 60 day Insanity workout. I had slacked off of it due to golf trips and works travels. Even though the contest ends this Saturday, my ultimate goal of getting to 200 still rolls on.

I also got in a 1.5 mile walk/jog after Insanity workout

This last week will be a challenge for me as I will be travelling to clients all week for work where eating out/fast food becomes an easy temptation. I intend to plan accordingly eat day and pack some light snacks/protein bars.

Good luck to everyone these final 4 days. Some of you are slacking on your blogs!! I find inspiration whenever I read others' blogs. We are in this together. Don't give up now!

7-20

Food – chicken enchilada for breakfast, Lettuce/turkey & cheese for lunch, Peanut Butter rollup on a corn tortilla for snack, and a jalapeno burger without bun for dinner

Exercise – I walked/jogged about 2 miles throughout the course of the day

A little over a week away from final weigh in.   I am inspired when reading other contestants’ blogs.  I wish some others would post again, hopefully they continue to work hard and are just too busy instead of losing focus.

7-19

Food – chicken enchiladas for breakfast, salad for snack, rice and beef with cheese for lunch, protein shake for snack, pizza and cookie for dinner

Exercise – I was still a little sore for the previous night of running steps at the high school, so I took it easy today with 200 reps of jump ropes, a variety of push up moves and a couple of suicide runs in my backyard.

7-18 Part 2

So I had to kick it up a notch today due to my weakend of splurging.   I played 2 softball games in the heat, and then after softball I went to Wickliffe High School and ran a few sprints and also did the stadium steps.  For a little twist, I go up the steps sideways in a lunge position which really burns the legs for a great workout.  I will definitely try to hit that up again in the next 12 days

Food (I am no longer calling it a “diet” because I would like to maintain my recent food portions and 4-5 meals a day routine beyond July 30th.   While July 30th marks the end of this contest, it is merely a Pit Stop on my journey to lose a total of 100lbs.  so far, I am over halfway there, and just because the contest ends, does not mean I have to stop.  Today was chicken enchilada day which I had for breakfast, lunch and dinner.  I had some rice and beef for a morning snack, a cucumber/onion salad for afternoon snack, and a protein shake for evening snack.

7-18

As many of you following my blog may already know, the weekends are my Achilles Heel.   I like to call them my WEAKends.   Family/friends get-togethers, golf outings, beautiful summer nights with some adult beverages.

I just got back from a 4 day golf weekend in West Virginia.  Although I gained a couple pounds, it was not the usual 5-10 lbs put on during a weekend, so I will count this as a tie.  I was able to get in 1.5 Insanity workouts in the 1st 2 days, but was dog tired after 36 holes Friday and Saturday.

This upcoming WEAKend does not get any easier as I have 2 golf outings and a wedding.

Good luck to everybody as we enter our final two weeks!
